How to Become a Notary Public in North Dakota

North Dakota Notary requirements:

  • Minimum Age: 18 years old

  • Residency: Resident, have place of employment or practice in ND, or reside in a county that borders North Dakota

  • Bond Required: $7,500 for the 4-year commission term

  • Application Fee: $36

  • Must be able to read and write English.

Step by Step instructions on how to become a North Dakota Notary

1. Purchase a $7,500 Notary Bond and any supplies you will need such as a stamp/embosser, journal and recommended online notary training.
2. Submit the Application and the bond to the SOS office
3. Obtain the stamp and provide the SOS with the impression before the date indicated on the verification form
4. Once approved, the SOS will issue a commission certificate.
